First appearance (Manga): Volume 2, Chapter 2 (profile + end) * San's sidenote: I've been a fan of CCS for a good 5-7 years now, and there's always been a big debate as to how to spell his name. >_>; His official name is "Syaoran," translated in this way in his official profile in the manga. It's been long debated as to if "Syaoran" is how its spelled, because Terada-sensei wrote his name as "Shaoran" in Hiragana when he was introduced. Or even "Shaolang," because of his Hong Kong descent. So, Syaoran it is, ok? -_-; And I made the pronunciation "rii" because that's how it was said in the original Japanese one, since there is no "L" in their alphabet. Syaoran arrives in Japan in January of 4th Grade on a hunt for the Clow Cards. He uses his rashin board (a magic compass, if you may) to track down the Clow Cards.. and the new Cardcaptor holding them. From first glance, Syaoran takes Sakura to be his rival for the Clow Cards -- only to find out later they're also rivals in romance! Syaoran is a very serious boy, aspiring to live up to his magical and warrior lineage. Syaoran probably has the best poker face out of the main characters in CCS, as his serious exterior covers his compassion for his friends and family. As time passes, Syaoran's perception of Sakura changes from rival, to companion, to friend, and.. We'll just leave it at that. During the series, Syaoran proves himself not only as a great magician at such a young age, but also as a constant pillar of strength for Sakura. While he's not exactly the "sidekick" in CCS, Syaoran is always there when Sakura needs help and when she needs a shoulder to cry on. |
