The Ryanban adds a new condition to Syaoran's predicament. Not only can he not touch the Ryanban without hurting Sakura and Chunyan, but now he cannot even touch the townsfolk! Syaoran, surrounded by people with wooden weapons pointed at his head, jumps in the air and makes an effort to kick the sticks from the surrounding townspeople. The moment he returns to the ground he is then battered by the stick-wielding people. As he is pounded to the ground, Sakura screams "Syaoran!!" Moments after hearing her shout, Syaoran stands up and tosses the townsfolk back. He knows (as we know) that Sakura no longer calls him "Syaoran," (think back to chapitre 16!) prompting him to realize that the sphere prison in which Sakura and Chunyan are held captive is merely an illusion.

No longer holding back in fear of doing harm to Sakura or Chunyan, Syaoran lunges at the Ryanban. However, a townsperson quickly jumps in front of the Ryanban, taking the kick directly in the face. Syaoran is then shoved back into the throng of townsfolk and is beaten. Just when things were looking their worst, Sakura and Chunyan enter with a mirror. Chunyan holds it up and a blinding flash fills the room. Apparently the mirror was one of her mother's tools, which releases people from hexes. The townspeople, perplexed, scamper about, not ever knowing that they were under the Ryanban's control.

Kurogane and Fay enter the room as the Ryanban lays helpless on the floor. Syaoran demands that he give up Sakura's feather, but the Ryanban still has a motive of deception up his sleeve. With Chunyan in the room, he suggests that the power of the feather may be strong enough to bring back her mother. Furious at this proposal, Chunyan screams that she is dead and no sort of magic will ever reverse the fact that the Ryanban murdered her. Syaoran asks if she wants revenge. "This kind of lowlife will dirty my hands if I hit him!" is her eloquent response.

Just then, the Ryanban is caught from behind. Long, razor-like nails wrap around his face. The Ryanban cries in agony, but the figure holding his head proclaims that this is the end. Kiishimu takes care of it.
